ESafety Introduction

eSafety is about learning how to be safe while online and protect yourself from cyberbullying and cyber abuse.

This eSafety page provides helpful links to cyber safety foundations and government resources designed to fully equip users with the skills they need for smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology.

Public libraries aim to teach and provide resources on online safety and digital literacy, through our collection of library materials and technology-based programs.

Cyber abuse is online behaviour which is reasonably likely to have a seriously threatening, intimidating, harassing or humiliating effect on a person. It is behaviour that threatens to hurt a person socially, psychologically or even physically.

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a one-stop-shop for online safety.  It provides Australians a range of up-to-date information and resources, coupled with a comprehensive complaints system to assist children who experience serious cyberbullying online.
 
eSafetyWomen is designed to empower Australian women to take control of their online experiences. This initiative of the Office of the eSafety Commissioner forms part of the Australian Government’s Women’s Safety Package to Stop the Violence.
 
Stay Smart Online is the Australian Government's online safety and security website it is designed to help everyone understand the risks and simple steps we can take to protect our personal and financial information online. We recommend you subscribe to the Alert Service to be notified of the latest online threats and how they can be managed.
 
ACSC - Australian Cyber Security Centre leads the Australian Government's efforts to improve cyber security. Their role is to help make Australia the safest place to connect online. They monitor cyber threats across the globe 24 hours a day, seven days a week so they can alert Australians early on what to do. If you have been a victim of a cybercrime, go to ReportCyber and report it. It is a national online system to help businesses and individuals securely report cybercrime.
 
SCAMwatch is a website run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). SCAMwatch provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams. They also publish the Little Black Book of Scams.
ThinkUKnow is a free, evidence-based cyber safety program that provides accessible cyber safety education to parents, carers and teachers through schools and organisations across Australia.
 
Alannah & Madeline Foundation is a group dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. The eSmart Program is an initiative of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, designed to empower students to be safe and responsible online. It encompasses a range of learning tools and resources to help students build essential digital and media literacy skills, so they can thrive online.
